Bay Area Commuter Benefits Program

Did you know it is mandatory for employers with 50 or more full-time employees in the Bay Area to register with the Bay Area Commuter Benefits Program?  Even if your employer offers commuter benefits, to be in compliance with the Bay Area Air District’s Regulation 14, Rule 1, they are required to enroll in the program and update their registration annually. Employers must offer one or more of five types of transit benefits:
  • Pre-tax transit benefits
  • Employer-provided subsidy for transit or vanpooling
  • Employer-provided transit (such as shuttles)
  • Telework one or more days a week
  • A custom plan that includes other modes like bicycling or walking, possibly combined with promotions that encourage alternates to driving alone and more
Employers can play a key role in affecting air quality and traffic congestion, both of which have a strong impact on our quality of life and future sustainability. We strongly encourage employers to comply.
Enrollment in the Bay Area Commuter Benefits Program is easy and free by visiting 511.org. Take advantage of the many resources to help you comply. A helpful handbook walks you through all the options, and frequently asked questions answer your most important questions. We will provide lots of resources and hands-on support if needed. For more information, visit 511.org or email the team at commuterbenefits@511.org to find out if your organization is registered.

The Office of Emergency Management would like us to share the following message with you. Please help us expand the reach to your community audiences to create greater awareness and engagement of emergency preparedness in case of an PSPS event.

The COVID-19 pandemic reminds us of the importance of being prepared for the unexpected. As we are in peak wildfire season, it’s important to also be aware that a PG&E Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) may occur at any time.

Did you know that you may be at risk of a power shutoff even if you do not live in a wildfire high risk area? High temperatures, extreme dryness and record-high winds have created conditions in our state where any spark at the wrong time and place can lead to a major wildfire.

To better prepare for an PSPS event, PG&E will notify its customers and non-customers who have signed up to receive alerts two days before power is turned off. Make sure to have enough supplies that will last a whole week when you receive this alert. Learn more on the PSPS event at http://bit.ly/PSPSFAQ and start preparing today.
