West Valley Community Services is accepting bids for the rehabilitation of 5 residential units and landscaping improvement at Vista Village, a Below Market Rate rental complex. The complex owned by West Valley Community Services was built in 2002. The complex features one-bedroom and two-bedroom units. The repair includes interior repairs of 5 units that have residents living there for more than 10 years. This project is funded by the City of Cupertino Community Development Block Grant Program. Bidders must hold a valid Class C or better Contractors License. For more information and to learn about submitting bids, visit www.wvcommunityservices.org/requestforbidsforvistavillage

In May, Assemblymember Low and his regional partners made a $7 million request to the Assembly Budget Committee for a one-time budget allocation to enhance public safety and emergency resiliency in the event of wildfires, earthquakes, and other disasters. The funding was secured in California’s recently passed budget thanks to this coordinated request, which was submitted just months after the devastating SCU and CZU Lightning Complex fires of 2020 burned close to 400,000 acres and 86,000 acres, respectively. The grant will create a pilot Wildland Fire Specialist Program, which will help create defensible spaces for West Valley communities to be implemented and overseen by the Santa Clara County Fire Department (SCCFD).

On Sept. 25, Cupertino was once again able to hold its night market. No one knew what to expect. But, thanks to the vendors and sponsors and to our community, who all felt this was the right way and time to gather and celebrate safely, the Cupertino Night Market exceeded expectations.

Our Silicon Valley take on this wonderful Chinese tradition included lion dancers, jazz, mariachi, fifteen food trucks, and a half dozen more restaurants, food vendors, merchants, high school clubs, and rides all seemed to whet people's appetites for more.

Special thanks to De Anza College and its staff for their support of the event at its new location. Thank you also to the sponsors whose willingness to support this very popular event at this uncertain time helped make it feasible.

And lastly, thanks to the thousands of people from around the Bay Area who shared their Saturday night with us, their friends, and their dogs!

If you haven't already, let us know how it went and what you would like to see next year.
